Day 3: Cali Beach Style

This was my outfit for our trip to the beach. I wore a white linen shirt dress, a black bikini, sunglasses, a bright orange beach bag and black flip flops.

Inspirations for painting today: More, more and more beige. I was enthralled by the warm beige sand, the craggy rock walls, and the dry grasses. I went back into the beige drips of rusty water and made a pot of black tea. I dripped the tea over the existing drips and used the tea as paint.

I then picked out the black bikini peeking out and those classic black havaianas flip flops, and added black lines to the beige.

My pop of color today had to be that burnt orange, of course.

The Inspiring California Coastline

Nothing is more inspiring than what is in our own backyard; The Mighty Pacific Ocean. It is truly magnificent and more beautiful than words can describe. Today we went on a little trip to Four Mile, a lovely surf spot/beach just up Highway 1. Here's a little look at the lovely palette. The gray craggy rocks, the dusty sand, the rich dark greens and that lovely blue sky and ocean!

Beige.

It's soft. Trustworthy. Nearly white...and elegant; The perfect neutral.
It's the color of weathered book pages,
Old wooden spoons.Dirty light switches.
Unbelievably classic. Shockingly boring, yet insanely beautiful. Beige is the richest color of plain.

Beige is my color. It seems to explain too much about me: plain Jane, classic, au natural. Beige is organic, healthy, natural, and resonates warmth. At the sight of beige, my body wants to snuggle up in it. Perhaps I love beige so much due to it's closeness to white, or it's rich boring elegance. Whatever it is, I know I cannot get enough of it. It is so versatile and classic, yet always fresh.

This is the beginning of the painting. I started with a thin layer of dripping rusty water.

Day 2: Clean Beige

White Market V-neck tee, BCBG Sweater top, Citizens of Humanity black skinnies, vintage Calvin Klein Loafers.

White is the color of nothing. White is sexy, subdued, quiet.
It's the color of an open mind; a fuel for ideas and creativity...yet so pristine and exactly perfect. It's sterile, classic, clean. It is me. My life is derived from insane ideas, facets of thoughts and moments, all compiled together, but it is all built on one foundation: white. My life is surrounded with white space. My brain navigates white space and fills in the blank.
I am a dreamer. I am a painter. I am constantly directing myself through white space -- filling it with lines, colors, textures, movements.
I have an obsession with white. Perhaps because of its simplistic nature, starkness, or the reference to light, I find white to be the most interesting color. There are a million variations of white, each able to make a different statement. It's pure. It's perfection.

And, of course, the first day must start with a gorgeous a blank white canvas. It's 36" x 48".
